Eric J. Goldring

Eric J. Goldring brings over three decades of experience in the yacht and superyacht industry in multiple capacities.  As such, while other lawyers or solicitors say they require an expert to better understand an issue, whether it be an engine failure, defective paint job or refit contract specifications, Eric J. Goldring has first-hand knowledge and experience.

Eric J. Goldring started out working on commercial vessels as a biological aid for the National Marine Fisheries Service.  Shortly after entering law school he headed litigation concerning the unlawful arrest, defective refitting and fraudulent accountings regarding an historic 173 foot yacht and an insurance claim concerning the defective rebuilding causing an engine failure on a 117 foot yacht…while spending evenings and weekends sailing a 42 foot Hunter out of Coconut Grove, Florida.

From there Eric J. Goldring branched out, while continuing the legal aspects of yachting, becoming involved in the development of useful construction specifications and contracts, international financing and superyacht construction oversight.  Not satisfied remaining in the office, he moved to Brisbane, Australia becoming involved with the takeover of shipyard that had gone into receivership; becoming the Managing Director of Australian Yachtbuilders Pty. Ltd. In that capacity he oversaw the completing of construction of a 192 foot (58 meter) motorsailing yacht, refitting and repairing a number of large yachts, developing contracts and specifications for new builds, and the design, contracting and construction of large catamarans for the Sydney Harbour tourist trade.

In the years since returning to the United States, Eric J. Goldring has been involved in refit work from the United States to Spain to France to Italy, many charters and significant work in the sale and resale of yachts and superyachts as well as associated litigations and arbitrations.

Having established himself as an expert regarding design, construction, refitting and chartering yachts, Eric J. Goldring has a significant list of articles and speaking engagements on topics ranging from how to effectively design a superyacht, to regulatory issues, to the ethical issues involved with the sale of a yacht.  (You may read more about these in our Information Center.)

Seeing many similarities with the cruise industry, Eric J. Goldring has been at the forefront of combining the synergies of yachting and cruising including such matters as negotiating and closing the transaction selling the S.S. United States to Norwegian Cruise Lines.
